چکیده مقاله:

Background: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the promoter region of miRNAs may disturb miRNAs processing, alter their expression, and ultimately affect an individual’s susceptibility to cancer. We conducted a case-control study to evaluate the association of rs353293 G>A with the risk of thyroid cancer in the Iranian population. Methods: 192 patients with thyroid cancer including (papillary, follicular, medullary, and undifferentiated) and 125 healthy subjects were enrolled in this case-control study. rs353293 G>A polymorphism in the promoter region of miR-143/145 were analyzed using polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) to find the association of this SNP with thyroid cancer. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to evaluate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for the potential confounding factors (age and sex), and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) between patients with thyroid cancer and controls. Results: We found no association between rs353293 G>A polymorphism and thyroid cancer.  Conclusion: This study suggests that the functional polymorphism in rs353293 is not associated with development of thyroid cancer. Future investigations with larger sample size should be performed to confirm our observations.

A Functional rs353293 Polymorphism in the Promoter of miR-143/145 Is Associated with a Reduced Risk of Bladder Cancer

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES MicroRNA (miR)-143/145, known as tumor suppressors, can promote cell apoptosis and differentiation, and suppress cell proliferation, invasion and migration. We performed a case-control study to investigate the association of rs353293 in the promoter region of miR-143/145 with bladder cancer risk. METHODS In total, 869 subjects including 333 cases and 536 controls wer...

RAGE p.82G>S Polymorphism Is Not Associated with the Risk of Multiple Sclerosis in Iranian Population

Background and Aims: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is known as a partially inheritable inflammatory autoimmune disease which involves the nervous system. Different studies suggest that immune dysregulation has an important role in the pathogenesis of MS, but its exact pathomechanism has not yet been explicated. The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is a member of the immunoglobulin ...

The role of Ile3434Thr XRCC7 gene polymorphism in Differentiated Thyroid Cancer risk in an Iranian population

Background: The aim of this study was to understand any association between differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) and Ile3434Thr XRCC7 gene polymorphism (GenBank accession number: rs7830743). DTC is the most prevalent thyroid neoplasm, which includes papillary and follicular cell carcinoma. XRCC7 gene encodes a protein that functions in non-homologous end joining DNA repair pathway. Non-synony...
